Coimbatore: The corporation council has given its nod to fill 20 nurse positions and seven pharmacist positions in urban primary health centres (UPHC) on contract basis.
Residents visiting the 32 UPHCs in the city are struggling due to staff shortage. “Of the 128 staff nurse posts, 10 are vacant. Another 22 nurses are away due to allocation of other work, maternity leave and unauthorized leave. The recruitment of 20 nurses will bring down the burden on the existing workforce,” a health official said.
“The recruitment process will be transparent. Senior health officials, including the dean of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and the deputy director of health services will conduct the interview to recruit deserving candidates,” the official added.
