Yavatmal: Noting that the 11-year-old pregnant girl would need special care, the court has granted one day police custody remand of the survivor’s mother, who was arrested and sent to judicial custody for marrying off the minor.
Meanwhile, the girl’s mother, who has been lodged in Amravati jail after being sent in magisterial custody till January 6, moved an application seeking bail. In her mother’s absence, the minor is living with her relatives at Maregaon.
Maregaon police station officer Rajesh Puri said DNA test would be conducted on the accused Ankush Raut on Friday to ascertain paternity of the unborn child.
Raut, a resident of Bhiwapur tehsil in Nagpur district, has reportedly confessed that the marriage was formally solemnised at Salebhatti village with the knowledge and consent of the girl’s mother and others.
While the girl had lost her father earlier, Raut is an orphan.
“Since the girl is just 11 years old, her health condition to bear the fetus followed by safe delivery is uncertain. We are waiting for the court’s guidance,” said Yavatmal SP Pavan Bansod, adding the police have filed FIR against the accused under Prevention of Child Marriage Act also.
