Bhubaneswar: To infuse the spirit of hockey among students and to make the upcoming Men’s Hockey World Cup-2023 more exciting, the higher education department has asked the heads of every higher education institution to install large
LCD screens to help students watch the matches.
Higher education department secretary Bishnupada Sethi said the FIH Hockey World Cup is being organised in Odisha from January 11 to January 29, 2023, and a number of programmes spearheaded by the department have been conducted in universities and colleges to infuse the spirit of hockey among students.
“Now the government desires to keep the spirit going especially during the event,” he stated.
In the letter, the secretary has suggested that large LCD screens be installed at strategic locations and students should be encouraged to view at least the inaugural event on January 11, the first match on January 13 and the final match on January 29, 2023.
It should be ensured that the matches in which India is playing are definitely witnessed in large numbers, stated Sethi, adding that the students should be encouraged to view and participate in the social media activities on hockey being hosted by the state government.
Rama Devi Women’s University vice-chancellor Aparajita Chowdhury said they have received the communication from the government. “We will install an LCD screen in our auditorium,” Chowdhury said.
Besides the viewing arrangements, the department has also asked the higher education institutions to install large logos, display of posters and conduct other unique activities to popularise hockey as well as the upcoming grand sporting event.
