Jaipur: JMC-Heritage mayor Munesh Gurjar along with MLA Amin Kagzi on Thursday officially started an initiative for cleaning and repairing of drainage infrastructure in 5,000 lanes of Walled City within two months.
The work will be first done in three zones of JMC-Heritage, namely Kishanpole, Adarsh Nagar and Hawa Mahal with an amount on Rs 25 crore, said officials.
“The dirty lanes of the Walled City had not been cleaned in the past 15 years, due to which residents, tourists, business community all faced problems with smell of garbage and breeding of mosquitoes. This work will be completed within two months and there will be no shortage of resources for the welfare of the city dwellers to solve their legitimate problems,” said the mayor.
Speaking on why drainage cleaning work is being done in winter instead of pre-monsoon season, Mohd Farookhi, deputy mayor of JMC-Heritage said, “This work will be done as part of cleaning dirty lanes of the Walled City. Cleaning will be done before monsoon also, but this is additional cleaning as the lanes have not been cleaned for years and due to that several drainage systems also need repair and maintenance.”
Kishanpole legislator Amin Kagzi said that after 2009, no one took care of the cleaning and repair of the dirty streets of the park and there was an unimaginable situation of mosquitoes, filth on the streets of Walled City, which will be solved now.
“There was no light from Badi Chaupar to Ramganj for 15 years, but these lights were installed through the Smart City Project and now the whole of Ramganj area shines with light. Following the chief minister's budget announcement, repair work of sewerage line will also be done by RUDSICO at a cost of Rs 50 crore in the Walled City,” said Kagzi.
