VADODARA: Fifteen electric auto-rickshaws parked near the Statue of Unity (SoU) in Kevadia went up in the flames late on Wednesday night.
The autos were parked adjacent to each other in the parking lot when they suddenly caught fire.
The fire brigade reached the spot and doused the flames within a few minutes before it could spread to other electric three-wheelers parked nearby.
No one was injured in the incident but investigations are on to ascertain the reason behind the fire. SoU spokesperson said that they have informed the police that they are now inquiring into the reason for the accident.
In June this year, an electric auto-rickshaw caught fire in Kevadia. These autos are deployed in the SoU premises to take the tourists around and they are driven by the local women.
"During early hours of Thursday, 15 auto-rickshaws parked at a charging station near Kevadia village caught fire due to unknown reasons. The autos were parked 35 feet away from the charging station which proves that rickshaws did not catch fire during battery charging," said a statement issued by the SOUAD.
The private firm has filed a police complaint seeking to find out the exact cause of the fire.
