Nagpur: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday hit back at Karnataka ministers over their statements about making Mumbai a Union Territory.
Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the BJP was making these demands since it was losing the Karnataka assembly elections. Aaditya asserted that Mumbai is part of Maharashtra and nobody can take it away from the state adding that in Karnataka they (BJP) are staring at a defeat.
“Mumbai belongs to Maharashtra, no one dares to make it a Union Territory. Also, no one will, because we stand for Mumbai and Maharashtra. We should strive to maintain peace, law and order and unity in the country. The border issue has been going on in the Supreme Court for years. But, why was the issue raised now? Because BJP is losing in Karnataka assembly elections,”Aaditya said.
Aaditya was responding to Karnataka law minister JC Madhuswamy’s statement that Mumbai qualifies to be a Union Territory.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said Kannada speaking people are not oppressed in Mumbai. “Mumbai covers the entire country, not just Karnataka. In Mumbai, people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Gujarat happily eat breakfast with Marathi people and we treat them with respect. Does this happen in the border areas? No. First the border area will be centralised, because Marathi brothers have been oppressed there for the last 75 years,” Raut said.
While speaking at an event in Nagpur, Raut said that Russian President Putin, US President Joe Biden and King of England Prince Charles had a discussion about Uddhav Thackeray.
“Who is Uddhav Thackeray? This man is fabulous. They used to say that even when faced with such a crisis, they don’t give up. There is a state of war in the country and the whole world is disappointed. In that case, Uddhav Thackeray is fighting. This is also an army, isn’t it? Due to this the leading people of the countries are asking who is Uddhav Thackeray”. Meanwhile, taking a dig at CM Eknath Shinde, Raut said, “We need to know when the Clinton era is over”.
