GURUGRAM: The CM flying squad along with Gurugram police on Tuesday night raided six shops and seized a large number of banned e-cigarettes and foreign cigarettes. The shop owners were arrested during the raid.
“We got information that shops located in Sector 56, Sector 15 part 2 and Palam Vihar were illegally selling e-cigarettes. Immediately, we raided the shops and seized the e-cigarettes, and foreign-brand cigarettes,” said the spokesperson of the Gurugram police.
When the squad asked the shopkeepers for the licence to sell the items, they failed to produce them. Thereafter, “the shop owners were also arrested,” added the spokesperson.
FIRs have been registered against the shop owners under sections of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
“We are trying to assess the value of the seized items,” police informed TOI.
