AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Wednesday met his mother Heeraba, who was admitted to UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre in Ahmedabad following health complications early Wednesday.
Modi arrived from Delhi at 2. 45 pm and went straight to the hospital. He was accompanied by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, BJP state president CR Paatil, several ministers and MLAs. After spending about one-and-a-half hours with her and the attending team of doctors, he returned to the state capital.
Hospital authorities, in an official note at 8 pm, said Heeraba’s condition was stable.
According to sources, Heeraba, who completed 99 years in June, was brought to the hospital for a check-up and was admitted on doctors’ advice for further treatment. The hospital authorities did not divulge the nature of complications.
PM Modi’s elder brother Somabhai was present in the hospital, BJP MLA Kaushik Jain told media. Party MP Jugalji Thakor said she might be discharged in a day or two.
The PM had penned an emotional blog post earlier this year when Heeraba entered her 100th year, describing her as a simple, yet extraordinary woman, like all mothers. He had last met her when he visited the state after the BJP’s historic victory in the assembly polls.
Special prayers were organised at multiple temples in the state for Heeraba’s well-being, including one at Hatkeshwar temple in Modi’s native Vadnagar.
