Jharkhand excise department nabs liquor mafia from Moori area

RANCHI: The excise department has nabbed a notorious liquor mafia, identified as Ganesh Gorai, in an operation conducted in Moori area of Ranchi district on Tuesday night.
Excise inspector Pradeep Sharma said that the operation was conducted after receiving clues that Gorai was fleeing towards West Bengal. He said that on the request of excise department the mobile phone number of Gorai was kept under surveillance.
Gorai is accused in several cases of illegal sale of liquor in Ranchi. He used to bring liquor from Punjab, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh and other states and sell them in Jharkhand.
He was forwarded to jail on Wednesday. It may be stated here that the state government is conducting operations to check illegal sale of liquor in view of the New Year celebrations when the liquor consumption is expected to rise.
The illegal sale dents the revenue collection of the excise department.
