Bhubaneswar: Finally, construction of the much-awaited Bhubaneswar railway station redevelopment project will take off from the New Year. The foundation stone of the project will be laid on Thursday.
Around Rs 308 crore will be spent on the project in the first phase. It will have a four-storied building with an additional railway line and a platform. The redeveloped station will have all required facilities for passengers. A seven-storied building will be part of the second phase of the project.
Official sources said the railways will focus on development of new building, air concourse, renovation of platforms and platform shelters, circulating areas, platform lightings, food court zone and shopping areas and waste management, waiting rooms, toilets and elevators.
There will be provision of well-designed service roads, vehicle parking, drains, signage and dividers.
The new building will have high-standard dormitories, lounges and retiring rooms apart from the beautiful landscaping of the circulating area, official sources said.
The energy-efficient green building will have an effluent treatment plant and solid waste management system.
The air concourse connecting platforms 1 to 6 will be 108 metre wide. It will have seating arrangements for passengers. The station will be completed in 24 months, said the official sources.
The station redevelopment work got delayed by around six years. In December 2016, the state government had given approval to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to implement the railway station multimodal hub project here.
