14 orphans sent to children’s home in capital
Berhampur: The Gajapati administration has rescued 14 orphan children and sent them to a children’s home in Bhubaneswar. The nine boys and five girls, aged between six and ten years, left on Tuesday evening in a train.
“They were sent to the home on the direction of the district child welfare committee (CWC). Collector Lingaraj Panda has also directed to refer the rescued kids to SOS Children’s Village for better rehabilitation,” said Arun Kumar Tripathy, district child protection officer (DCPO), Gajapati. “The children, who have been deprived of proper care after the death of their parents, can stay there till they turn 25,” he said.
He said before sending them to Bhubaneswar, consent was taken from their relatives. “Relatives of the children can visit them at any time to meet,” he added.
