CHENNAI: A coolie attacked his wife and daughter with a kitchen knife before attempting to leap down from the metro flyover in Ashok Nagar on Tuesday. A police team rescued the man and booked him for attempting to end his life.
Subramani, of VP Akilan Street in MGR Nagar, attacked his wife Thilagavathi, 35, suspecting her fidelity, and their daughter Charulatha, 12.
Subramani, a habitual drinker, often quarrelled with his wife. During a quarrel on Tuesday, Subramani attacked the woman and the girl. Thilagavathi suffered injuries to the neck and ear while her daughter suffered injuries on the hands.
As they cried for help, a panicked Subramani left the house and went to Ashok Nagar metro station, where he climbed on a wall, and tried to jump off the flyover. After some road users noticed it, they alerted police. Soon, a team of metro rail staff and police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued Subramani along with the fire and rescue services personnel.
Police registered a case under four sections of IPC against Subramani and arrested him.
