One more Tripura BJP MLA quits party
Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl may join Congress
AGARTALA: Ahead of the assembly election, BJP in Tripura on Wednesday saw one more legislator quitting the party and the membership of the house. This is the fifth time that the ruling party has seen the exit of a sitting MLA from its fold since it came to power in 2018.
A four-time MLA, Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl won from the Karanchara seat in Unakoti district on a BJP ticket in the last election. On Thursday, he is likely to join Congress, which he had left for BJP earlier.
Accompanied by several Congress leaders, including former MLA Ashis Kumar Saha, the 66-year-old lawmaker submitted his resignation to assembly secretary Bishnu Pada Karmakar as speaker Ratan Chakraborty is away from the state.
"Hrangkhawl's resignation will be accepted by the speaker once he returns to the state," Karmakar said.
