BSF to buy over 300 camels for patrolling Indo-Pak border
Jaisalmer: Looking at the shortage of camels for Border Security Force (BSF) along the international border adjoining Rajasthan, BSF DG P.K Singh has directed to buy new camels. Hence the BSF has started the process of purchasing new camels.
Bikaner sector DIG Pushpendra Singh Rathore reached Jaisalmer to purchase new camels from the rural areas as per the BSF norms. According to sources, there is a shortage of around 300 camels, which play a crucial role in patrolling along the desert border region.
He said that in the border area the network of roads has been laid due to which there is not much need for camels but there are several remote desert areas where one can reach only with the help of camels.
Rathore said that a total of 177 camels are to be purchased in Rajasthan and the Jaisalmer breed of camels is considered the best. Hence he has come with his team including doctors, experts etc to Jaisalmer and efforts are being made to purchase camels by visiting rural areas. Once purchased, these camels undergoing training for service.
He said that Jaisalmer camels look beautiful and have good height and are considered excellent for patrolling and parade. The camels are purchased at the age of 5 to 6 years and in BSF they continue up to 16 years. After they retire from services.
