    Dalai Lama News LIVE Updates: Security agencies searching for Chinese woman in Gaya suspected of spying on Dalai Lama

    Dalai Lama News live: A security alert was issued in Bodh Gaya in Bihar on Thursday morning amid the visit of the Dalai Lama with the police searching for a Chinese woman, an official said.

    Police issued a sketch of the woman, identified as Song Xiaolan, besides sharing her passport and visa details with the press, he said. However, it was not immediately clear why the police were looking for the woman.

    Security has been beefed up around the Mahabodhi Temple Complex with the screening of devotees being intensified, he added. The Dalai Lama addressed a gathering here in the morning.

"Input has come that a Chinese woman is living in Gaya. We were getting inputs for last 2 years. Searches are underway. At present, Chinese woman is not being located, due to which many suspicious points are being raised.Suspicion of being a Chinese spy can't be ruled out," said SSP Gaya.

    NIA raids multiple locations linked to PFI in Kerala

    • The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials on Thursday carried out raids at multiple locations including residences of second-rung leaders across of the banned Islamist outfit Popular Front of India in Kerala. The raids, which started late last night are still underway, sources in the Kerala police said.
    • Multi-agency teams spearheaded by the NIA had arrested several functionaries including top leaders of the radical Islamic outfit in September in near simultaneous raids at multiple locations in 15 states for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country.
    • Officials then had described the mega crackdown as the "largest-ever investigation process till date" against the PFI.

    8 dead at Chandrababu Naidu's roadshow

    • Eight people including a woman died and eight others were injured on Wednesday after they fell in a drainage canal in Kandukur town in Nellore district.
    • The mishap happened when the Leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu was addressing a road show.
    • People gathered in large number at the meeting venue and there was some jostle among the public during the meeting, leading to stampede-like situation at the canal, they said based on initial information.They said the clear picture would emerge later.

    Scuffle onboard plane from Bangkok to Kolkata, video of incident shared widely on social media

    • A few passengers onboard a Thai Smile Airways plane from Bangkok to Kolkata were reportedly involved in a scuffle earlier this week. A video clip of the scuffle inside the aircraft was shared widely on social media on Wednesday.
    • In the clip, a man could be seen being slapped multiple times by a few co-passengers.According to a passenger who was in the plane, the incident happened on December 26 just before the plane was taxiing to the runway for takeoff. He was travelling to Kolkata along with his mother.
    • The passenger, who hails from Kolkata, told PTI about the incident on condition of anonymity.He said that he was worried about his mother who was sitting near the seat where the incident happened. Later, other passengers and air hostess pacified the individuals involved in the scuffle, he added.

    Hong Kong asks Japan to drop airport restrictions with 60,000 travellers affected

    • Hong Kong's government has asked Japan to withdraw a COVID-19 restriction that requires passenger flights from the financial hub to land at only four designated Japanese airports, saying the decision will impact around 60,000 passengers.
    • Japan, which is a top travel destination for Hong Kong people, said it would limit flights from Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China to Tokyo's two airports, plus Osaka and Nagoya from Friday.
