MYSURU: An Indian gaur was shot dead in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve of Mysuru on Tuesday.
The incident happened in Singanur beat, Devamachi section in the Anechowkur range of Nagarahole forest.
The carcass of the gaur was found near the Mysuru-Gonikoppa state highway by the forest personnel earlier in the day. A post-mortem revealed that the gaur has died of bullet injury.
According to foresters, it is aged eight years.
An officer said miscreants have opened fire at the gaur and had killed in the forest area.
Foresters have launched an investigation after registering a case under Wildlife Protection Act.
This is the first such case where a gaur has been shot dead in the forest region in the recent past.
Forensic Science experts were summoned for examination and investigation.
