SSG Hosp equipped to tackle Covid wave
Vadodara: Mock drills were conducted in the city and district hospitals to check preparedness for any possible rise in Covid-19 cases. Emphasis was more on facilities for medical oxygen in facilities for in-patients.
At SSG Hospital (SSGH), oxygen generation plants, liquid oxygen tanks and oxygen supply pipelines were checked by the authorities. The oxygen generation plants at the hospital have a capacity of 5,450 litre, while the liquid oxygen tanks have a capacity of 40,000 litre. In addition to this, the hospital has over 400 oxygen concentrators.
SSGH superintendent Dr Ranajankrishna Aiyer said that the hospital has no no Covid-19 patient at present. He added that no patient had tested positive at the hospital during the last 24 hours. He informed that the hospital was ready with 100 beds for emergencies. It also had 600 ventilators that could be pressed into action.
The district panchayat health department also did similar mock drills in the areas of the district outside city limits. Officials said that these areas had 2,725 beds that could be used for treating Covid-19 patients. The beds included 177 ICU beds with ventilators, 364 ICU beds without ventilators, 1,211 beds with oxygen supply and 973 isolation beds. These were spread across 42 primary health centres, 10 community health centres and 29 private hospitals.
In the hospitals outside the city, the oxygen facilities included nine oxygen generators, 347 oxygen concentrators and 363 oxygen cylinders. The facilities were checked during the mock drill by the health officials.
