53-year-old man arrested for raping granddaughter

Coimbatore: The Perur all-woman police on Monday arrested a 53-year-old man for raping his 8-year-old granddaughter.
The accused was working in a textile. His daughter and son-in-law are daily wage workers and are staying near Kaniyur. The girl is a Class III student in a private school.
“The victim went to her grandparents’ house for holidays on December 23. The next day, the accused took her to a bathroom and raped her. He sexually assaulted her for the next three days. On Monday, the girl told her grandmother about sexual assaults. She alerted her daughter,” said a police officer.
The girl’s parents fetched her from her grandparents’ house on Monday afternoon. Subsequently, they lodged a complaint with the Karumathampatti police, who directed them to go to the Perur all-woman police station.
Police registered a case against the grandfather under section 5 (l) (m) (n) read with 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him on Monday evening. On Tuesday, he was produced before a Pocso special court. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
