Jaipur: A trader and his brother were robbed of Rs 19.50 lakh when conmen phished money from their bank account by hacking their phone at Aravali Vihar area in Alwar. The victims lodged an FIR at Aravali Vihar police station on Monday.
According to police, traders Pawan Jain and Mukesh Jain stated in their complaint that their phones were hacked by the conmen twice and their passwords were also hacked. “After hacking the UPI passwords, the conmen phished Rs 19.50 lakh from their accounts,” said a senior police officer of Aravali Vihar police station on Tuesday.
Jaheer Abaas, SHO, Aravali Vihar police station, stated that Mukesh and Pawan in their complaint stated that on December 25 the conmen made four transactions to transfer Rs 19.50 lakh from their accounts. “After getting SMS message, they came to know about the transfer of money. Moreover, they got a call in which the caller posed as executive of a telecom company and stated that their phone number has been blacklisted and would be discontinued. When the traders enquired how it can be started, the executive sent a link on their mobile phone and asked them to open it and register a complaint. When they opened the link, their phone got hacked,” said Abaas.
Police added that the conmen misguided the victims that their sim card had been blocked for technical reasons but it was actually working. “We have registered a case under appropriate sections of IT Act and IPC against unknown persons. Also, our technical teams are working to identify the number from which the call was first made to the two brothers and later an SMS was sent,” said a senior officer.
