BELAGAVI: The platinum jubilee celebrations of Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Belagavi were held on December 23 and 24 here, in the presence of a large number of senior army officers and eminent alumni, including Lt Gen KH Gawas, Commandant MCTE, Brig Joydip Mukherjee, Commandant, MLIRC, Belagavi etc. The celebration was presided over by the deputy chief of army staff Lt Gen Ravin Khosla.
A commemorative special cover by the Indian postal department and the coffee table book depicting the saga of the school right from its inception and future roadmap were released by the guests. Meanwhile, the platinum jubilee trophy instituted by the Old Boys Association, Belagavi was received by Lt Col Satveen Singh, principal of RMS and Arun Kumar Dharwal, MIE.
This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony, in which the chief guest handed over the Shahid Capt Sajjan Singh Malik Memorial Trophy to Cdt Abhay Singh for being the academic topper of class IX, and Cdt Roshan for exhibiting outstanding leadership qualities and the champion house trophy to Pratap house.
Addressing the gathering after prize distribution, chief guest Lt Gen Ravin Khosla hailed the school for its commitment to pursuing the goal of all-round excellence with professionalism and admired the contribution of alumni of the school to nation-building and national security.
Later, Lt Gen Khosla unveiled the newly erected bust of late Capt Sajjan Singh Malik, the school's illustrious alumnus, who was martyred while neutralising terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. This was followed by the inauguration of a science and philately exhibition by Ravin Khosla. Cadets also presented cultural activities.
Second-day celebrations were inaugurated by Lt Gen Kulbhushan Gawas, Commandant, MCTE, Mhow, at the school stadium. An impressive march-past led by the school captain was followed by a series of activities including aerobics, karate display, pyramid formation and hula gymnastics. Many
sports events were held for alumni and their families.
