Vadodara: Barodians queued up at both the ends of the state’s longest flyover on Sunday when it was being inaugurated by chief minister Bhupendra Patel. Soon after the CM opened it to the public, they just rushed in to use it for their satisfaction that they were among the first to use it.
The 3.5km-long flyover from Genda Circle to Manisha Crossroads which was inaugurated by Patel has been built at a cost Rs 230 crore. It has been named as Atal bridge after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee whose birth anniversary was on Sunday.
The construction of the flyover was going on for about five years. Work on the project gained momentum after the state government promised Rs 100 crore for it.
While the deck and ramps of the bridge have been opened for traffic, work on the beautification and some other facilities on the flyover are yet to happen.
Speaking on the occasion, Patel said that the state government had ensured that good governance was the essence of the work culture of his government. He added that the government had ensured that there were systems in place that ensured that the citizens did not face any inconvenience.
Patel said that the municipal corporations in the state had been integrated with the CM dashboard. This would ensure better monitoring of their functioning.
The CM added that the state government was also working towards introducing family cards. This would ensure that documents provided for one scheme to a government office are valid for other offices too, he said.
He pointed out that the state was leading in providing employment. This, he said, had become possible due to industrial development and investments in the state. Patel pointed out that the state was the first choice for foreign investors.
On Sunday, the CM also formally handed over the Nyay Mandir to VMC and inaugurated a garden at Sama. He also released a book, ‘Majestic Vadodara – Pages from the Past’.
