Cratered for a year, but Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority official says repair not before February
A light spell of rain is enough to fill the potholes with water, which poses a risk of accidents
GREATER NOIDA: Residents of four societies, including Earthcon Sanskriti, Casa Royale, Stellar One and Apex Aura, in Sector 1 of Greater Noida West have complained that a 100-metre service road near the societies is ridden with potholes for over a year now but no action is being taken.
While the stretch becomes dangerous for motorists even during light showers, at other times residents face health hazards due to continuous dust blowing from the damaged road.
The road in front of our society has been lying in a dilapidated condition for over a year. The potholes are filled with water whenever it rains. An accident is waiting to happen here. Presently, the dust blowing from the damaged road is not only adding to the pollution but is also creating health hazards for the residents,” said Himanshu Ratnakar, a resident of Earthcon Sanskriti, adding that many vehicles have also been damaged due to the damaged road.
Ranjeet Dubey, another resident of the society said while Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) made the road, it did not complete it in front of the society. “As a result, dust rises from the stretch daily and children face a lot of problems while going to school. All families living in the area are facing the problem of dust,” he added.
While Annu Khan, president of Noida Estate Flat Owners Main Association (NEFOMA), tweeted the matter to the CEO of GNIDA as well as the district magistrate urging action, Ratnakar also raised the demand for a speed breaker, zebra crossing and traffic signal at T point.
“We need a speed breaker, a zebra crossing and a traffic signal at the T-point on this road which is about 300 metres from the society,” stated Ratnakar.
When contacted Rajesh Nim, the manager at GNIDA, he told TOI that the road repair work can only be done in February next year as the current cold weather conditions are not conducive for bitumen layering of the road. “Meanwhile the Authority will complete the tendering work,” he added.
