NAGPUR: It was a super Sunday for over 1,200 students of The Blind Relief Association Nagpur's Mundle English Medium School as they joined a world record feat with chef Vishnu Manohar.
Manohar prepared nearly 6,000kg mixed-veg dish in one go in a giant kadhai (cauldron) on Christmas morning. The humongous dish earned him 15th world record registered by the India Book of Records.
"This record is special, because I was accompanied by over 1,200 school students, teachers, parents, and members of school administration. Even the venue was the school playground where we prepared this mega delicacy," said Manohar.
The project was named 'samarasata bhaji' or 'harmony veg' by the organizer, The Blind Relief Association Nagpur's Mundle English Medium School.
The atmosphere was electrifying as cooking started at 8am. The school's in-house orchestra presented various songs, while a group of girl students performed lezim group dance. School band gave salutations to every milestone moment during the preparation.
Dr Manoj Tatwawadi, coordinator from India Book of Records, said the record feat has been adjudged on three counts. "First is more than 5,000kg vegetables cooked in one utensil at one single time, second is active involvement of nearly 1,200 students, and the third was zero-waste during the mega dish preparation," he said. Entire organic waste from vegetable chopping has been composted in the school itself while all other waste was reused.
Union minister
Nitin Gadkari also visited the venue and praised the eco-friendly initiative. Organizers claimed more than 25,000 individuals must have tasted the mixed veg dish.
