Forum moots use of Satark app to instill rd discipline
Panaji: In a bid to curb accidents, the Goa Road Safety Forum is proposing Satark Goa, an initiative of traffic vigilance with public participation, to instil discipline among road users. The road safety activists affiliated with the organisation are holding a meeting with the Goa DGP in this regard.
Satark Goa will be an app-based system wherein citizens can report traffic violations and earn points in return, which can later be exchanged for humble gifts. The system works much along the lines of the traffic sentinel scheme, which was discontinued following public outcry against the vigilance system.
“There was opposition from cross-sections of society for the traffic sentinel scheme, so we have rectified and modified the system so that there is no room for people to reject it,” one of the activists said.
The app will be developed only after they receive a nod from the state government. However, Satark Goa will not have the monetary benefits that traffic sentinel offered.
A user can report up to three violations a day, for which a maximum of 100 points will be generated.
