Belagavi: While Christians will be observing the
Christmas feast on Sunday, midnight mass and prayer services are held on Saturday night. Bishop of Belgaum Rev Dr Derek Fernandes said Christmas is the festival of reaching out to fellow human beings especially those who are poor, marginalised and underprivileged in society. He was delivering his Christmas message on Saturday morning.
“Christmas is upon us, and we think that it is a time for happiness, joy, and celebrations. But the fact is that Jesus was not born in a palace but in the small town of Bethlehem and was delivered in a manger. There was no proper place for him to be born. King Herod killed several children, thinking Jesus would soon die. The time was very difficult when Jesus was born,” Bishop Fernandes said.
“21 centuries have passed since the birth of Jesus Christ, but nothing has affected his teachings. He to this world to deliver humankind from sins. Therefore, Christmas is the time to extend a helping hand to those in need, ” he said. He also wished the people of Belagavi a merry Christmas, seeking special blessings from god for the year to come. TNN
