Woman dies after car rams median; 3 injured in Chennai
Police suspect that Ashwin, who was behind the wheel, could have fallen asleep and lost control of the car
CHENNAI: A 26-year-old woman died after the car in which she was travelling slammed into the median near Pallikaranai early on Saturday. Three other occupants, including the driver, were injured in the accident and they were admitted to the government hospital.
According to the Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) police, the woman was identified as S Gayathri of Ilanji near Tenkasi. She was working in a private IT company on ECR. Around 3am on Saturday, Gayathri along with B Raghuram, 25, M Dinesh Kumar, 28, and car driver V Ashwin, 29, were on their way back to Pallikaranai where they were staying after finishing work.
While crossing a stretch near Pallikaranai, the car allegedly smashed into the median. In the impact, all four of them were severely injured. Upon information, a team of the Pallikaranai traffic investigation wing rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Chromepet Government Hospital.
On examination, the doctors declared Gayathri brought dead. The three others were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Gayathri's body was sent for post-mortem.
The police suspect that Ashwin, who was driving the car, could have fallen asleep and lost control of the car. Due to this, the vehicle could have rammed into the centre median, they said. A case was registered.
