Man smothered to death, body burnt in snack unit furnace; 2 sons held in Maharashtra

PUNE: Two siblings were arrested on Friday on the charge of smothering their father to death in their house at Moi near Khed and later burning his body in a furnace of the snacks manufacturing unit he owned, between December 15 and 16.
The brothers, both college students, told police that they threw the body's remnants, including bones, collected from the furnace into the Indrayani. "Sujit (21) and Abhijit (18) were upset with their father, Dhananjay Bansode (43), over his affair with a woman," Chakan police senior inspector Dnyaneshwar Sabale said. Mahalunge police chowky's inspector Kishor Patil, a part of the police team cracking the case, said, "A few years ago, the Bansodes moved from Osmanabad to Moi near Khed."
A fter shifting from Osmanabad, Dhananjay started the snacks unit (farsan and groundnuts) at Moi near Khed. Patil said, “His sons are pursuing higher studies in Pimpri Chinchwad. Dhananjay and the woman came in contact through a social network and started dating.
His wife left home after coming to know about it and started staying with her relatives in Pimpri.” He said, “A probe revealed that Sujit and Abhijit first hit Dhananjay on the head with an iron rod and later smothered him with a pillow. They put the body in the big furnace of the snacks unit and set it ablaze
. They collected the remnants, threw them in the Indrayani.” Patil said, “The woman with whom Dhananjay frequently exchanged messages started enquiring about his whereabouts when he went silent. She then came to Pune from her home in Vidarbha searching for him.
On learning about the woman’s search, Sujit and Abhijit approached us on December 19 and lodged a missing person’s complaint.” The officer said, “Investigators realised that the two brothers were evasive in their replies. Under some sustained grilling, they admitted to having killed their father.
They then narrated how they did it destroyed the evidence. After recording their statements, we registered a murder case against them.
