MANGALURU: Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai expressed confidence that those who killed Abdul Jaleel, 43, owner of a fancy store at Surathkal in Mangaluru on Saturday, would be nabbed at the earliest.
The chief minister told reporters at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Sunday that the investigation would reveal the incident’s background and motive.
“The incident took place yesterday and the police have been working efficiently. The Postmortem of the body was conducted and the cremation was also held peacefully. It is an unfortunate incident that should not have taken place. There is considerable progress in the Investigation into the case. I am confident that all the accused will be nabbed soon. Eyewitnesses have stated that two assailants have committed the crime. They will be arrested at the earliest,” the CM said.
The truth will be out once the investigation is complete, the chief minister asserted.
“I appeal to the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts not to pay heed to rumours. Do not give opportunity for a breach of peace in society by spreading rumours. There is a need for unity and trust among people. Let the police conduct an investigation. They will probe the case independently without any pressure and bias. We will take legal action against the accused at any cost, whoever it is,” Bommai said.
To a query on the ‘action, reaction inevitable’ remark that Bommai made in Mangaluru in 2021 regarding the repeated moral policing and other communal incidents, the CM said, “What I say is that those who start violence in the society need to be suppressed. Any activity that leads to violence in society needs to be stopped. It is the duty of society and the government as well. There is no question of ‘action–reaction’ when it comes to someone committing a crime. If we divert a case, then the actual reason for the same will be lost. The police investigation will bring all truths to light”.
Bommai refused to comment on another query on the previous incidents like the murder of Mohammed Fazil in Surathkal in July and the cooker blast, both took place soon after the departure of the CM from Mangaluru.
