Bangladesh were good with the ball as Taijul Islam and their skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked up 4 wickets each. Mehidy Hasan took one and Taskin Ahmed got rid of the dangerous Virat Kohli. Their openers then started off slow and defended the 6 overs they had to play towards the end of Day 2. They still trail by 80 runs but if they have a good opening stand, things can get even for them. Can they do it? Or will India bag some early wickets and put the hosts under pressure? We shall find out together.
India only needed more than 227 runs to surpass Bangladesh and put pressure on them, but the visitors had a shaky start and lost both of the openers in the first hour. They went down to three wickets in the first session and lost Virat Kohli at the very start of the second session. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer put up a gritty stand after that and scored 93 and 87 respectively. Once the two of them got out, India kept on losing wickets in a jiffy. They were finally bundled out for 314 having a lead of 87 runs. And, having bowled six overs late on Day 2 they haven't have made much impact with the new ball yet.
Hello and a warm welcome to Day 3 of the 2nd Test match between Bangladesh and India from Mirpur. The first day saw the visitors in the driver's seat as they bowled out the hosts at 227. The hosts clawed their way back on the second day and bundled our the visitors for 314, conceding a lead of under 100 runs. Both days saw a fall of ten wickets and it will be interesting to see which side will dominate the moving day.
Taskin Ahmed removed Virat Kohli soon after lunch to reduce India to 94/4 but Pant and Iyer counter-attacked in a spectacular manner to boost to India's bid for a 2-0 series sweep
Bangladesh, having posted a below-par 227 in their first innings, dominated the morning session when left-arm spinner Taijul Islam's triple strike rattled India
Bangladesh finished Day 2 on 7/0 after openers Najmul Hossain and Zakir Hasan safely negotiated six tricky overs until stumps
India were all out for 314 claiming a handy first-innings lead of 87 in the low-scoring contest at Mirpur's Shere Bangla National Stadium
Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer combined in a rollicking 159-run partnership on Day 2 to help India wrest back control of the second Test against Bangladesh
... DAY 3, SESSION 1...
Right then, just like Day 1, 10 wickets fell on Day 2 as well and the contest is heating up nicely. With the pitch getting even more useful for the slower bowlers, India will hope that they are able to use a decent enough first-innings lead to their advantage. Bangladesh would want to occupy the crease for as long as possible as any sort of total they set could be difficult to chase down on Days 4 and 5 on this pitch. Day 3 is known as the moving day and it seems that we will get to see one team clearly taking the lead on this day. Action will begin on Saturday at 9 am IST (3.30 am GMT) but you can join us for the build-up a lot earlier. Cheers!
Shreyas Iyer is in for a quick chat. He says that they didn't have a good start and he likes to have challenges. Adds that he has been in such situations before and the pitch has everything for the spinners as the ball turns and bounces. Ends by saying that they need to execute their plans and come back stronger on Day 3..
India ended day 1 on a high and even though they don't finish Day 2 in the same manner, they will still feel that they are in control of this match. They lead by 80 runs but would have liked to pick up a wicket or two before the day ended. The top order seemed fragile and even though Virat Kohli stayed on the crease for long, he couldn't manage to convert his start. Then came the big 159-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer that put the visitors in the driving seat but a plethora of wickets fell in the final session and India failed to stretch their lead beyond 100 runs. With just 6 overs bowled by their bowlers late in the day, not many chances were created and they will now look to make early inroads on Day 3.
Bangladesh were on the ropes when India went into the Tea break with the score being 226/4 but skipper Shakib Al Hasan took matters into his own hands and about after a bit of a tussle, the breakthrough came. Pant was dismissed in the nervous 90s and that opened the floodgates for the hosts. Shakib and co were able to pounce on the opportunity and managed to bowl India out half an hour or so before the day ended. With an initial deficit of 87 runs, the Bangladeshi openers have done well to just negotiate the new ball and end the day unscathed.
Yet another eventful day of Test cricket comes to an end and heading into Day 3, it is India who have the edge over the hosts but all is not lost for Bangladesh here. They trail by runs 80 but have all 10 wickets in the bag and will be aware of the fact that one good stand at the top and the difference could be wiped out in no time.
