Ludhiana: The campaigning for elections to the managing board of the Sutlej Club became more fierce on Friday, one day before elections. Almost all the contestants and their supporters were seen pleading before the voters, asking them to come for voting on Saturday.
Saturday is a working day and low turnout of members is expected during the poll, that is scheduled of 9am to 5pm.
The contestants left no stones unturned in their quest to win the seats, and have setup war-rooms where their family members and friends gathered and called up club members to seek votes. In another strategy adopted by several contestants, they personally visited the influential club members who can help garner several votes.
Once voting concludes at 5pm on Saturday, the counting of the votes would start immediately and the results are expected by late evening on the same day. The new executive committee will take charge on Sunday.
Meanwhile, district administration and police officials on Friday took a stock of arrangements inside and around the club premises ahead of the polling. Entry of outsiders has already been barred in the club ever since the code of conduct came into effect, and the club timings have also been restricted to 10pm as of now, which will change from Sunday onwards.
