Brothers held for ‘killing father, burning his body in factory kiln’

A CITY businessman who had gone missing on December 15 was murdered by his sons as he was having an extra-marital affair, an investigation by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has revealed.

Police have identified the deceased businessman as Dhananjay Bansode (47), a resident of Khed taluka of Pune district. Police have arrested his two sons, Sujit Bansode (21) and Abhijit Bansode (18), for his murder. Bansode ran a business of food products and fried snacks. His family members had approached police on December 19 and filed a missing report, saying he has been missing since December 15, said Police Inspector Kishor Patil, the investigating officer.

A first information report was lodged at the Mhalunge police station on Friday.

During investigation, police found that Bansode was having an affair with a woman from Nagpur he had met on social media. His wife and children got to know about it and he often got into arguments with them over the affair, said police. Bansode even told the woman in Nagpur that his children would try to kill him, according to police.

Based on these leads, police detained his children Sujit and Abhijit for questioning during the investigation. Police said the duo admitted to killing their father on the intervening night of December 15 and December 16 as they were against his affair.

“The two sons attacked their father with an iron rod while he was sleeping. They then suffocated him with a pillow till he died. The accused burnt the body in the bhatti (kiln) at their factory. We have recovered the remains of the deceased. His children have been arrested under sections of 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. A court has remanded them to police custody till December 28 for further investigation,” said Inspector Patil.
