Mysuru: Some NGOs and physically disabled persons expressed concern over fake Unique Disability Identification (UDID) cards and said several persons are obtaining government benefits using cards obtained through fraudulant means.
The volunteers aired the issue in a grievance meeting chaired by deputy commissioner K V Rajendra at Zilla Panchayat auditorium, here on Thursday.
The volunteers levelled allegations with proof following which the DC directed the officials concerned to take necessary measures in this regard.
Several people have obtained UDID cards after claiming they have 75% hearing loss disability. There were many fake card holders. Despite no disabilities, many have obtained UDID cards by providing fake documents, they blamed and said, due to the lapses, the real beneficiaries are deprived of benefits.
The volunteers also alleged that several people in K R Hospital are operating and selling fake certificates. The officials are involved in the scam, they said.
The deputy commissioner, who took the matter seriously, said if any lapses were found then he will initiate action. A criminal case will be registered against the officials if there are relevant documents to prove the irregularities, the deputy commissioner said and also directed the officials to conduct the meeting of the doctors, who issue disability certificates.
The DC also said that if there is more than 40% disability, it should be mentioned in the voter list.
The DC also said the taluk level officers, CDPOs, supervisors should hold a meeting and resolve the grievances of the disabled. This will prevent them from travelling to the district headquarters.
He directed to conduct a meeting within January 10, 2023 and the report should be submitted to the district administration.
