Hyderabad road rage: Bruised ego, helmetless biker & blood on street

HYDERABAD: What triggered the midnight road rage at a sewage-clogged Anjaiah Nagar stretch that killed a woman, riding pillion on a bike? It was the bruised ego of the accused, Rajasimha Reddy, who reversed his Mercedes to mow down the biker after an altercation over splashing sludge. Also, the deceased, Maria Mir, would have lived to see the day if she had worn a helmet.
"The two bikers and those riding pillion sought an apology from the accused, Rajasimha, for splashing sewage water on them while speeding past. However, the accused refused to say sorry and sparks flew.

This annoyed Rajasimha, who wanted to hit back at the bikers," said Raidurgam inspector Mahesh. When police nabbed him based on Mercedes' registration number and CCTV footage, Rajasimha admitted to ramming the bike in which Maria was riding.
Hours after Sunday midnight, Maria, her husband Syed Saifuddin, and two others on bikes, slowed down while negotiating through overflowing sewage. Suddenly, a Mercedes Benz zipped past, leaving them soaked in sewage. An argument ensued between Saifuddin's brother and accused Rajasimha Reddy after the bikers intercepted the Mercedes.
The accused's ego was hurt and he took a U-turn at reckless speed and returned to the stretch to ram into the bike on which Saifuddin's brother and brother-in-law, Syed Minhajuddin and Rashad Misbahuddin were riding. Both were tossed to the ground. On seeing this, Saifuddin gave chase. But the car driver allegedly hit the bike on which Saifuddin and his wife, Maria Mir, were travelling.
After committing the crime, Rajasimha returned to his Jubilee Hills residence, but kept the incident under wraps. Also, he did not park the car at his house, instead stationed it far away to avoid detection. Unfortunately, Maria Mir was not wearing a helmet and succumbed to head injuries.
