PATNA: Nearly four years after the infamous Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi cases, a
Patna resident has been accused of cheating the Punjab National Bank (PNB) to the tune of Rs 168.59 crore through 34 fake bank guarantees issued by fraud. A resident of Ranjan Path near the Gyan Niketan school off Bailey road in Danapur area, the accused, Priya Ranjan Kumar, is a native of Kutubpur village under Doriganj police station area in Saran district.
Following an FIR lodged on a complaint filed by the PNB, separate CBI teams conducted raids on the premises of Priya Ranjan in Patna and Saran district on Thursday and Friday in connection with the fraud. Priya Ranjan, who was posted at the PNB, Parliament Street branch at New Delhi and later in Ara circle, was suspended with effect from November 24 on the charges of involvement in the fraud.
As per the information provided by the CBI, Priya Ranjan has been named as the prime accused, along with Elangbam Ranananda, one of the directors of the Heyee Global Enterprises in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and the MD Enterprises based in Andhra Pradesh.
