Panchamasali seer: Elect those who support 2A quota
Belagavi: Basavajaya Mrutyunjay Swamiji, the seer of the Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha, Kudala Sangama, called upon the Panchamsali community to elect leaders who have supported the fight for the 2A reservation by all means.
The seer was addressing the Virat Panchashakti Samevesh, a massive convention of Panchamasalis that was organised at Kamakaratti, 2 km away from the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS), on Thursday, aiming to pressure the government to accept the 2A reservation demand of the community.
“We (Panchamasalis) can achieve anything if more of our leaders become legislators in the 2023 elections,” he added. “I have been on a padayatra for the past two years to create awareness among the community and have not seen my peetha in Kudala Sangama since then. My only goal was to secure reservations for economically backward families in the community. I thank the leaders - Basanagouda Patil (Yatnal), Vijayanand Kashappanavar, Laxmi Hebbalkar, HS Shivashankar, Vinay Kulkarni and others who stood by me," the seer said, expressing his gratitude.
He called upon community members to mention ‘Panchamasali Lingayat’ clearly in the caste category during the census. Previously, Yatnal and Kashappanavar raised swords to inaugurate the convention.
The police department had made a huge bandobast to avoid untoward incidents during the convention.
However, more than 25 people lost their cellphones while many others said they were pickpocketed.
Many of the people who arrived from different districts faced severe inconvenience while parking their vehicles.
