Gurgaon: Former chief minister
Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday accused Haryana Police and government officials of creating obstacles in the way of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“Sarkar aati hai, jati hai (regimes come and go). Do not act under political influence,” he said, lashing out at the Manohar Lal Khattar regime as a “non-performing government”. “Unemployment rate was lowest in Haryana in 2014 (the year BJP came to office), but it is the highest in the country now. This is mainly because there are vacancies for 1.82 lakh government jobs,” he said.
Hooda said when the yatra was passing through Nuh villages in the evening, there was no power supply despite people standing on roads in the dark to get a glimpse of Rahul. Hooda also said residents of Bhadas village told Congress workers that the power supply was normal till Tuesday, but on the day of yatra it was snapped.
The former CM stressed that after a big turnout of people in the yatra on the first day in Haryana, the police on Thursday put barricades to stop people from joining it.
He accused the police of not allowing those who wanted to join the yatra to reach the venue.
Hooda also said if Congress is voted back to office, it will scrap the contractual system, regularise temporary staff and fill the 1.82 lakh vacancies. “We will fill all vacancies and scrap the contractual system of hiring and all temporary employees will be regularised,” said Hooda.
Senior Congress functionary Jairam Ramesh said Haryana is the fourth BJP-ruled state after Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh through which the yatra is crossing, and everywhere, BJP tried to disrupt the rally and made attempts to prevent people from participating in it with the police help.
“The Haryana government is terrified after seeing a good response to the yatra. They are snapping the power supply and using police to create obstacles,” said Ramesh.
He also said the Union government and AAP government in Delhi are nervous as the yatra is about to enter the capital. “Now, PM Narendra Modi and his B-team led by Arvind Kejriwal have called an emergency meeting to review Covid-19 situation at a time when the yatra led by Rahul Gandhi is about to enter the capital,” said Ramesh.
The Union health minister’s letter on Covid norms is not based on any scientific evaluation, but based on those written by BJP MPs from
Rajasthan.
“If any scientific body comes up with an advisory based on scientific evaluation, then we will follow it. We will not follow any political advisory,” he said, adding that the only motive is to defame and stop the yatra in Faridabad before it enters Delhi.
