Kanpur: As expected, Uttar Pradesh outplayed host Nagaland by an innings and 230 runs on the third day of the Ranji trophy match which concluded at Nagaland Cricket stadium on Thursday.
Nagaland’s remaining batsmen displayed better performance and offered resistance and thwarted all attempts of UP bowlers to wrap the match before lunch.
Overnight not out batsman SS Mundhe led his team mates from the front. It was his bad luck that he missed his first- class century by just two runs. He batted with confidence and faced 193 balls for his 98 runs knock consisting 16 boundaries. He first scored 41 runs with Imliwati for the seventh wicket and thereafter 54 runs with Nagaho for the 8th wicket.
Munde’s prized wicket was scalped by Jasmer Dhankar when skipper Karan Sharma caught him. At that time the score was 181 for 9. Now mere formality was left and Jasmer concluded the match claiming last batsman AM Singh for 4.
After the match was over, UP manager Kanhaiya Lal Tejwani said that UP needed an outright win to keep itself in the race and that had been achieved. Praising the efforts of SS Mundhe, he said Mundhey batted really well and displayed that he and other team mates would become a force in coming years.
