COIMBATORE: Youth welfare and sports development minister Udhayanidhi Stalin would visit Coimbatore on Sunday to review developmental work related to his ministry, said electricity minister V Senthil Balaji on Friday.
Talking to newsmen after inspecting Codissia ground where a government function with the participation of Udhayanidhi would take place, the minister said that he would hand over welfare measures to not less than 25,000 beneficiaries in the government function. Udhayanidhi would inspect the facilities available at the Nehru Stadium, he said.
“So far it is confirmed that at least 20,000 beneficiaries will receive welfare measures on Sunday. The number will easily go across 25,000. The exact number will be revealed after a review meeting with officials from various departments later in the day,” he said.
To a question that freebies in the state were being criticised by other party leaders, Senthil Balaji said some people had even gone to the Supreme Court against it. However, when an election comes in other states, the same people are giving promises of implementing the schemes offered in Tamil Nadu, he said.
“Free bus pass to women in government buses is a beneficial scheme to improve the living standards of women. People were confined to their houses during Covid-19. Rs 4000 given by chief minister M K Stalin was very helpful for the poor,” he said.
To a question on the fate of consumers who fail to link Aadhaar with electricity connection before December 31 deadline, he said more than 50% of the consumers out of 2.67 crore consumers had linked Aadhaar thus far. The chief minister would be consulted before taking the next step on that.
Asked that farmers were unhappy over Tamil Nadu government not announcing free sugarcane for Pongal, he said that the minister concerned would take care of it.
