Thiruvananthapuram: An 87-year-old man stabbed his wife to death in a sudden rage over a minor issue at Thiruvallom on Thursday.
The deceased Jagadamma (82), of Soumya quarters at Thiruvazhimukku near Thiruvallam, was suffering from poor eyesight and her husband Balanandan used to quarrel with her due to her physical incapability in getting things done for him.
On Thursday, Balanandan stabbed his wife while she was standing at the courtyard using a knife. According to reports, Balanandan was allegedly unhappy with his wife as he used to always complain that there was no one to take care of him.
Balanandan had married Jagadamma after the death of his first wife years ago. He has four children from the first marriage, and no children from the second marriage. The couple lived with his younger daughter Soumya who is a cancer patient. Soumya developed fits after witnessing the brutal murder and was later shifted to a hospital by the neighbours, who also alerted the police.
The police later shifted a badly injured Jagadamma to Medical College hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead. The Thiruvallam police have registered a case against Balanandan under section 302 of IPC for murder and he has been remanded after producing before a court.
Soumya is married and her husband is working in one of the gulf countries.
