Spurned man slits woman’s neck on public road, arrested

Surat: Police arrested a 27-year-old garment manufacturing unit labourer who tried to kill his former girlfriend in Sachin on Thursday by slitting her throat on a public road. While the police arrested accused Ramsinh Padvi, a resident of Sachin and native of Nizar in Tapi district, the victim Nilam Vasava had to get eight stitches after she was injured with a sharp piece of metal and is stable.
Padvi attacked Vasava when she was standing on the roadside on Wednesday at around 8.30 am. “Padvi told the police that he wanted to kill her for refusing to marry him or continue with their relationship of three years which broke after her refusal for engagement,” Sachin police told TOI.
The duo worked in the same garment manufacturing unit a few years ago where they met and developed a relationship. Padvi proposed marriage in 2019, but the woman refused to get engaged to him and ended the relationship. Padvi had even earlier attacked the victim out of anger and injured her in 2020.
Vasava recently started work again when Padvi approached her again. He had an argument with her on December 17 and threatened her with dire consequences, cops said.
