JAIPUR: Hours after announcing the suspension of Jan Akrosh Yatra, the BJP on Thursday took a u-turn saying that it will continue with the yatra as there is no Covid advisory. The BJP had announced that it had suspended its Jan Aakrosh Yatra in the state in view of the rising number of
coronavirus cases globally, party general secretary Arun Singh on Thursday.
With an eye on the Assembly polls due next year in
Rajasthan, BJP chief JP Nadda launched the Jan Aakrosh Yatra in the Congress-ruled state to corner the
Ashok Gehlot government on issues related to farmers, crime and misgovernance on December 1.
“The BJP has suspended Jan Aakrosh Yatra in the state in the wake of the rising number of Covid cases. For the BJP, people come first before politics. For us the safety of people, their health is the priority," Singh said.
BJP president Satish Poonia also in a tweet said “The Jan akrosh yatra launched agaisnt the misgovernace, jungle raj and corruption is getting overwhleming support from the people. But on general precaution agaisnt Covid and direction we are suspending it.”
However within hours he changed the plan. He said, Jan Akrosh Sabhas which have been completed only in 41 assembly segments will be held in the remaining assemblies as well as per schedule with Covid precautions if no Covid advisory from the centre or the state is issued.
Later in a press release said the proposed Jan Akrosh Sabahs in Hamumangarh and Ganganagar on Decembr 24 is being postponed for now.
Poonia said the yatra was held from December 1 to 14 in which the party workers contacted about 2 crore people directly or indirectly covering a distance of over 1 lakh km. About 92 lakh pamphlets were distributed and 14 lakh people's grievances were collected. Speaking of Congress’ BJY, Arun Singh accused the party of playing with people's lives for politics.
