PUNE: An employee of a BPO firm was detained on Thursday for questioning in connection with the murder of his childhood friend, Paresh Shankar Kandhare (28).
The Kothrud police said Kandhare, an employee of another BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) company, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his flat at Paramhansnagar in Kothrud. The 28-year-old professional was strangulated to death in his flat between 4am and 8.30am on Tuesday, a source in the police.
An attempt was made to pass off the incident as a death by suicide, the source said. But the post-mortem report revealed that Kandhare had died of strangulation.
Kandhare's cousin, Kundal Adsul (36), lodged a complaint with the Kothrud police after receiving the post-mortem report revealing that the former had died of strangulation, another source in the Kothrud police said.
Senior inspector Hemant Patil of the Kothrud police said, "The victim, Khandare, and his detained friend are both graduates and work with different BPOs in the city. We have detained the victim's friend based on the last seen theory." Patil said, "The two friends had drinks at Khandare's flat prior to the murder. So, we are questioning the friend of Khandare."
