‘All Covid-19 safety protocols strictly followed at Coimbatore airport’
COIMBATORE: All precautionary measures are in place at the Coimbatore airport to prevent spread of Covid-19, said airport director S Senthil Valavan on Friday.
He told reporters that masks have been made compulsory for all the people at the airport as well in aircraft. They are working closely with the state health department in testing international passengers arriving at the airport.
The airport handles two international flights daily -- one to and fro Sharjah and the other one to and fro Singapore. “All the international passengers arriving at the airport continue to bring Covid-19 negative certificates. An automatic thermal scanner is available at the airport. The temperature of each passenger is being monitored on a computer screen,” he said.
“Airport staff members will ensure that passengers maintain social distance. Thermal screening of passengers is being done. Sanitizer has been kept in place wherever required,” he said.
A health official said that 2% of the passengers arriving from international destinations are being tested for Covid-19. The random testing, which had been in place till November 28, was suspended after cases came down. They resumed it on Thursday. Three teams are in place to monitor international flights before they are allowed to leave the terminal round the clock.
“People whose samples test positive will be traced and made to isolate themselves. All passengers should keep an eye for symptoms. Those who have symptoms should isolate themselves and get tested,” the official said.
