Mandya: The Panchatantra yatra undertaken by the JD(S) ahead of the assembly elections on Wednesday continued its journey through Mandya district, with former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy exuding confidence of the party doing an encore of sweeping all seven seats in the district, which it had achieved in 2018.
Kumaraswamy said the party was still a formidable force in the district despite attempts by the Congress and the BJP to make inroads into Mandya.
The former CM did, however, admit to mistakes that the party had committed in thelections, to the legislative council, which had led to some of its candidates losing the polls. However, Kumaraswamy said the party had not been let down by the people but by a few leaders. “The voters of Mandya are firmly behind the party,” said Kumaraswamy, dismissing claims of the JD(S) losing ground in Mandya.
On Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar’s bid to pocket the Vokkaliga vote, Kumaraswamy said, “Some Congress leaders are eager to ascend to the CM’s chair, but the people of Mandya will not support them. They will continue to support me as they have always.”
The yatra on Wednesday headed to Maddur from Malavalli, and is slated to cover all the assembly constituencies in the district. Kumaraswamy was presented with a garland of corn, and sugarcane by party workers in Maddur. However, Maddur MLA DC Thamanna, who accompanied Kumaraswamy, took ill when the former CM was addressing a rally. Attendant medical staff who tended to him attributed his sickness to exhaustion and dehydration.
