Wardha GP election results a mixed bag for Congress, BJP
Wardha: The results of 113 gram panchayat (GP) elections in the district for the post of sarpanch were a mixed bag for both the BJP and Congress. Counting of votes was done on Tuesday.
The gram panchayat elections hold significance ahead of the zilla parishad and municipal council elections which are scheduled in March. It will have an impact on assembly elections too as all 4 MLAs representing the constituencies under which the gram panchayats come had worked hard for victory of their candidates.
All the eight tehsils of district recorded 77.80% voting which was held on December 18.
Congress and NCP alliance could win 48 GPs, the BJP hoisted its flag on 49 GPs while 13 independents and 3 others won the election.
All eyes were on result at Pipri Meghe where BJP won but the victory margin was less. Here, Vaishali Ajay Gaulkar group won the election. On the other hand, at Amgaon (Khadki) of Selu tehsil, the winning candidate was announced by taking a Ishwar Chithi (toss) as there was a tie for the sarpanch’s post. Here Rajesh Lonkar was elected.
In GP elections, no party uses its symbol but supports the candidates.
