Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) health and sanitation department has issued a notice to Nagpur University through its nuisance detection squad (NDS) asking it to make temporary arrangements of toilets for labourers on the campus. Till then, the labourers were given access to toilets on in the PG departments, officials said.
Open defecation has been going on on the campus for the last two months.
The migrant labourers have been employed by private contractors for constructing a new cement road, landscaping and other civil works for the upcoming Indian Science Congress from January 3 on the campus.
On Tuesday, TOI had reported that the contractors didn’t provide any mobile toilets for the labourers who were forced to relieve themselves in the open between the Jamnalal Bajaj Administrative building and PG departments.
On Wednesday evening, the NMC department was forwarded photographs of new temporary toilets at the site while the university officials also informed them that the labourers would be allowed to use newly constructed toilets. The new ones are for ISC guests.
