JDA to build only cable bridge and rotaries for OTS crossing
Jaipur: In order to make the OTS Junction on JLN Marg free from traffic signal, the Jaipur Development Authority has changed the plan of the earlier Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Under the new schemes of things, JDA would only construct the cable bridge over JLN Marg and two rotaries – one on the Gopalpura Bypass Road and the other on the Sansthan Path. It essentially means, under the new plan, JDA had shelved the idea of construction of the clover leaf structures.
“There are several land hurdles to construct the clover leaf structures. The project deadline is December 2023. So, it has been decided to remove the clover leaf structures from the plan. Instead, two rotaries would come up on the Gopalpura Bypass Road and on the Sansthan Path,” said an engineer of JDA.
So, now vehicles plying on JLN Marg intending to take a right turn on this crossing will have to take a left turn first then a round-about turn at the rotary to come back to the crossing and then a left turn again on JLN Marg.
And, vehicles plying on Gopalpura Bypass Road and Sansthan Path intending to take a right turn will have first cross the crossing from below the upcoming Cable Bridge and then take an U-turn from the rotary to reach the crossing and take left turn on JLN Marg.
“It means that you are making the crossing signal free. But you have to install two new signals at the rotaries barely 30-40 metre from the crossing on Gopalpura Bypass Road and on Sansthan Path. It would have been ideal to construct underpasses instead,” another engineer added.
Officials recollected that in 2016 the earlier government had carried out a survey and JDA prepared a DPR of only Rs 38 crore. In this DPR JDA had planned to construct an underpass from vehicles coming Gopalpura Bypass Road and heading towards Malyvia Nagar from this crossing.
“But for reasons unknown JDA shelved that plan in 2019 and prepared the fresh DPR of Rs 185 crores. Now you would spend the huge amount only to construct the Cable bridge and two rotaries,” an official added.
