There's great news, RX100 fans! The icon from decades ago will make a comeback and its modern avatar, the Yamaha RX100 will get a larger displacement engine, according to an ET report. Yamaha India President Ishin Chihana has stated that the RX moniker will return soon. The motorcycle from the 1980s will, of course, lose the two-stroke powertrain owing to the current emissions standards.
The Yamaha RX will get a larger engine and considering the popularity of mid-segment motorcycles, it could be a 300cc unit. Not many details are known about the new-generation RX but it surely is a bold decision for Yamaha to decide to put this name on a modern bike that will not be as light or as quick as a 100cc two-stroke.
The RX100 was powered by a 98cc two-stroke single-cylinder which made 11 PS and 10.39 Nm of torque. No other 100cc bike has been able to match these figures. Plus, with a kerb weight of just 103 kg, the RX100 had a tremendous power-to-weight ratio, making it as fast as any other modern 150-160cc motorcycle.

The modern-day RX would most likely get retro design and styling, something that's demonstrated by Jawa 42, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Honda CB350 H'ness, and the likes.
Currently, Yamaha’s portfolio in India only has 150cc and 250cc platforms, with motorcycles like FZ, FZ-S, FZ-X, FZ-25, MT-15, YZF-R15, and scooters Ray-ZR, Fascino, and the 155cc Aerox. More details should unfold about upcoming motorcycle sometime next year. Watch this space to remain abreast.
