Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge Kanpur Nagar Rajesh Chaudhary on Monday sentenced accused Fagun Singh to life imprisonment and with a fine of Rs 10,000 for committing murder.
The court ordered Rs 5000 from the fine amount be paid to the complainant as damages, and that the accused have to undergo another two months jail term if he failed to pay the fine. The term that the accused had passed in jail during the trial would be adjusted in the sentence, the court ordered.
Earlier, the defence counsel had pleaded that as the accused was very poor hence the court should award a minimum sentence. On the other hand ADGC Dharmendra Pal Singh pleaded that since the accused had committed a heinous offence of murder, therefore he should be punished with maximum sentence. According to ADGC Tihari Dhanuhar, a resident of Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh had lodged an FIR at the Maharajpur police station stating therein that his 28-year-old son Dukhram and son-in-law Moti Lal had come Kanpur to work as labourers in Anandeshwar Brick Field Sarsaul where Fagun Singh, also a resident of Barbhata district Bilaspur also worked.
On February 23, 2021 the brick kiln owner had disbursed salary among the labourers.
After getting salary, his son and Fagun Singh went to the market and later consumed liquor inside Dukhram’s hut. While drinking, the two engaged in arguments over some issue after which Fagun Singh hit Dukhram on his head with a fire wood.
Dukhram cried in pain and he fell on the ground in a pool of blood. Shivanand Mishra, the accountant, reached there and had seen Fagun Singh coming out from the hut of Dukhram and running away. Mishra took Dukhram to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment .
