Rs 3.73 lakh withdrawn from three ATMs in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Unidentified people withdrew Rs 3.73 lakh from three RBL Bank ATMs through multiple transactions after tampering with the machines.
The transactions took place on October 5 and 6. The bank officials came to know about the illegal transactions recently.
The city cybercrime police registered a case on Tuesday based on a complaint by Jeyaganesh, a bank official in Coimbatore.
An officer with the cybercrime station said that as the accused had tampered with each ATM, the system recorded as if it had retracted the amount even after dispersing it. There was a vulnerability in the machine and the accused made use of it. They are conducting an inquiry on how these people knew about the machine so well.
They said similar withdrawals had taken place outside Coimbatore. “Soon, the perpetrators will be arrested,” an officer said.
